Fox and Salmon Cross Community Experiential Learning
Fox and Salmon students have been learning about living things and cells for the past few months. Their next topic was the human immune system and teachers wanted students to EXPERIENCE what a virus would experience when it tries to get into our bodies. Fox and Salmon Community teachers collaborated to design and create an interactive walk for students to FEEL and SEE what it would be like getting through nose hairs, seeing if they survived stomach acid, dodging white blood cells in the blood and figuring out the key to get into the cell. Salmon and Fox learners were regrouped together and chose a virus or bacteria as their team names. They worked together to get through the challenges at each barrier the body presented. This was a fantastic critical thinking task to have students learn about the different barriers at the very start of our learning.
